More than four million people in England are long-term users of antidepressants.
Data from NHS Digital show that 70.9 million prescriptions for antidepressants were given out in 2018, compared with 36 million in 2008. The number of prescriptions for antidepressants in England has almost doubled in the past decade, according NHS Digital data.
NHS is spending £5.5m (2016 figures) on Antidepressants each week, as failing mental health services struggle to provide alternative therapies, according NHS Digital data.
According to the figures obtained from the NHS Business Services Authority, one in six 18 to 64-year-olds were prescribed antidepressants in 2017, rising to one in five among those aged 65 and over.
Twice as many women as men are being prescribed antidepressants in all age groups.
Around 1 million people received psychological therapy for a common mental disorder through a programme in 2016/17.
One in six people aged 16+ reported having symptoms of a common mental disorder.

How to use Happiness as a way into the Happiness Zone

• Training course - duration 3 sessions
• One – to – one support sessions -duration 12, 45 minutes session, thereafter periodically.
Outcomes for participants attending the training course: -
1. Understand what a goal is
2. Why goal setting is important
3. How to set a SMART goal
4. A toolkit to set up a forward happiness plan e.g. 1-year plan, and beyond
5. A toolkit to set up a happiness goals monitor
6. A toolkit to monitor, evaluate and adjust a forward happiness plan.
Outcomes for participants that completes the programme: -
1. A lifetime happiness plan
2. Responsibility for own success or failure
3. Defined real life actions separated from just wishful thinking
4. Encouragement to set priorities, therefore limit the time to get involved with distracting things
5. A path to follow
6. Help to visualise and plan actions to achieve goals and the steps to carry them out
7. A sense of past victories of goals accomplished and motivation to succeed in current and future goals
8. Improved self-image
9. Awareness of personal strengths
10. Improved access to stronger social networks
11. Improved wellbeing and resilience
12. Individual and/or group goals.
The programme provides users with strategies to deal with their mental wellbeing and focus on other positive aspects of their lives.

Accountability accelerates your performance
The American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) did a study on accountability and found that you have a 65% of completing a goal if you commit to someone. And if you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed, you will increase your chance of success by up to 95%.
